CHANGES TO THE ADMISSION
ELIGIBILITY GUIDE
Introduction
Following a review, the Diploma of Policing Practice has
been restructured so that it better meets the operational needs of the NSW
Police and improves the transition of Probationary Constables to the
field. The changes, which will take effect from the beginning of the May
Session, 2002, will place a greater emphasis on meshing field-based
training with specialised professional education. An important outcome of
the course restructure is that it will allow successful students to be
eligible for attestation earlier than before.
As the changes were announced at the end of February,
2002, it has not been possible to reprint the Admission Eligibility Guide.
Please read carefully the information below as it highlights important
changes to that guide.
Section 1: How to Use this Guide:
The Application Pack does not contain a Policing
booklet or a Distance Education brochure - these are currently being
revised.
Section 3:
Age: You must be at leased 18 years and six
months when you start the Diploma as you must be 19 years of age before
being employed by the NSW Police.
Driver's Licence: You must hold a full NSW driver's
licence or a green provisional licence prior to commencement of Session 2
of the Diploma of Policing Practice, and you must maintain or improve upon
that licence status prior to employment.
Section 5: Costs of Studying
HECS payments: the HECS table on page 17 provides amounts
payable for a six-session Diploma. The review of the Diploma has resulted
in the some changes to the HECS table - see Part 4: Course Structure:
Study Options for updated information relating to each mode of study.
