The NSW Police College provides a broad
range of internationally respected education and training programs for new
recruits and serving NSW Police Service personnel.

The College is set on 48 hectares
close to the centre of Goulburn and provides and provides modern teaching and
residential facilities for up to 650 course participants at any one time.
Some of the excellent training facilities available at the
College include the modem high-tech driver training course, located near the
main campus and capable of simulating a wide range of driving conditions; a
fully established scenario village for simulated tactical and emergency
situations; a state of the art, fully electronic pistol range; and a resource
centre capable of linking with all major police services worldwide for the
exchange of police operational information.
In 1981 the Lusher report called for a variety of changes to
police training in NSW and included recommendations for a residential College,
the appointment of some full-time academic staff, a longer recruit training
period and a change of teaching methods to a greater understanding of social
issues and the police role in the community.
In 1984 a residential College was established in Goulburn on
the site of the former College of Advanced Education and an extensive building
program since then has added many new and specialised facilities, including the
driver training school, computer records, network, police library and chapel.
The NSW Police College now has facilities valued at an
estimated $70 million and employs a total of 190 staff. It offers a broad range
of courses such as:
Police Recruit Education Program, aimed at new recruits
Constables Development Program, conducted in conjunction with Charles Sturt
University Specialist Skill and Management Programs
The Police Recruit Education Program is conducted over 18
months and provides the graduate with the knowledge, skills and attitudes
expected by the community of a modern police officer. This course is recognised
as one of the best police training programs in the world.
Apart from offering direct training to every level of the
NSW Police Service, the College also encourages police commanders to conduct
their own staff education programs using the residential and teaching facilities
available. Other State and Federal Government organizations are also offered the
use of the College's facilities on a commercial basis.
The NSW Police College is administered by the NSW Police
Service Education and Training Command and is located in McDermott Drive,
Goulburn, NSW Australia 2580.
