Intelligence Officers

The Blue Bar of the Law

Report anything that you consider being of a suspicious nature..............your actions may prevent a crime being committed !

Intelligence officers play a very important role with the every day running of the police stations within the LAC. These officers gather data from other police during their shift and even if the information may seem useless at the time, when its all collated and sifted through, may result in an arrest or conviction of someone for a crime committed within the area.

These officers are known as 'INTEL', and without their existence the job of 'policing' would be a great deal harder than it is now. By gathering information about the certain 'activities' or about the sighting of 'known people' within the area, these police officers are trained to put together information that will help other police officers catch these criminals in the act of their crimes, or aid in their investigations and the successful arrest of the criminal.

Intelligence officers do not only rely on information from other police officers, the community can also play a large part in crime prevention by passing on information to the police. To give you an idea of what some people may pass off as 'useless information',......you are parking your car to go shopping, you see two young boys hanging around the doorway of the shop across the road, you think to yourself "why are they doing that? they should be in school", but its none of your business so you don't worry about it. You return to your car about an hour later, and you notice that the same two boys are still across the road, but have moved to the next doorway, you mutter to yourself and drive off. That night you listen to the local news and guess what?  " Today police were called to a shop after two young teenagers bashed and robbed a shop keeper of the day's takings. There have been no arrests as both teenagers ran off with cash and goods before the police arrived. Police are looking for two teenagers but have only a slight description of the two wanted in relation of this robbery. The shop keeper is in hospital with cuts to his head and face, but doctors say that after surgery later tonight the scaring will not be all that bad, but are afraid he may lose the sight out of one eye".

You now think back to when you first parked your car, you remember seeing the two boys hanging around the shop doorway, then you remember seeing the same two boys an hour later in the shop next door. If only I had rang the police, this would never have happened, after all 'they did look a little suspicious hanging around that doorway'.

If the police had been told about two boys hanging around the doorway of that shop they could have gone and seen what they were up to, moved them on and the shop keeper would not have been robbed nor hurt.

If you see anything that looks suspicious or a group of teenagers hanging around a building, give your local police a call, tell them what you have seen and where they are. You may save someone a lot of heartache and more so their safety.
