General Support Officers, or as they are
known, GSO's, are at the centre hub of all police stations.
These people answer most phone calls from the public and take down the information needed
so that police may respond to those who require assistance.
All GSO's are trained in office skills and computer data base work. They assist all police
with typing and computer entries when required.
The duties of GSO are shared by two people in the main reception area of Batemans Bay
Police Station. The smiling face of Sue Dale above will greet you on some days, the other
days it will be Julie Brown, pictured below. Both GSO's are kept quite busy on their shift
and at times take up to three or four phone calls at once.

The front desk of most police stations is where you will find the smiling face of a
GSO.
They will answer your questions and assist you in anyway they can, if you request to talk
to a police officer they will put you in touch with the officer most experienced with your
problem and he will help you. The GSO also has the responsibility of entering into the
computer any calls for police assistance. The computer entry is then sent to the police
radio room and the nearest police car in that area is sent to the place requiring police
assistance.
